The Summer Reading Challenge

This annual challenge runs in libraries nationwide and changes its theme every year. The aim is to attract children to the library and to keep them reading during the school holidays. In the past, Robin has produced bespoke storytelling sessions to run alongside. Roald Dahl, Outer-space, Epic Greek adventures, The Elves and the Shoemaker, and even Silliness have been themes over the past few years. Usually running at 1 hour, the sessions combine stories, poetry, quizzes, games and lots of fun! Always a very busy time of year, book early to avoid disappointment.

Harry Potter Day

Another very popular session with venues and audiences. Robin tells stories about the wizarding world, magical monsters and amazing adventures. The audience love having a choice of which stories to hear, answering the quiz questions, singing along with the songs and, with original illustrations and audience interaction, there is no better way to celebrate this day. Always very busy, book early to avoid disappointment.

Immigrant tales

Originally commissioned by the Manchester Jewish Museum, and performed for library services around the country, these original stories are about families fleeing persecution or simply coming to Britain to seek a better life. Using key items from the museums collection, these family friendly stories are an educational look at the immigrant experience. Performed, in the past, on Holocaust Memorial Day and Purim.

Shadow-Puppetry

Robin’s stories are often accompanied with shadow-puppetry and he has run many workshops on this fascinating and beautiful form of theatre. With easy to follow instructions, and using items that can be found around the house, Robin can help you create characters and everything needed for a shadow theatre in your own home or school.

Storywheel: Stay & Play

A fun way to hear your favourite nursery tales. Spin the wheel, see where it lands, and join in with the story. The Gingerbread Man, The Little Red Hen, The Three Little Pigs and The Billy Goats Gruff are among the stories you could hear. With silly props, puppets and activities, this session is perfect for younger children. ‘Stay & Play’ with the story-bags and re-tell the story yourself. All costumes and props provided.

Pantomime Storytelling

Stories told by a Pantomime Dame! What’s not to like? Robin is the resident Dame at YORK THEATRE ROYAL and was nominated Best Ugly Sister at the National Pantomime Awards 2022. Learn all about the day-to-day life of being a Panto Dame and all the goings-on backstage! With stories, games and a sing-along, this session will make fun festive content for your websites, business or school.

Other notable dates include: National Shakespeare Week, World Book Day, Easter, National Storytelling Week, and Halloween.
